Algebra begins: letters for numbers, simplifying, one- and two-step equations.

Solve: 4x + 6 = 26
- The 6 was added last, so it comes off first: 26 − 6 = 20, giving 4x = 20.
- Now only the multiplying is left to undo.
- Divide both sides by 4: 20 ÷ 4.
Answer: x = 5
