Is your child new to English? Their English level can be lower than their grade. The warm-up finds the right starting point.

Grade 7 or Grade 8? In math, start at Grade 6–⁠8. It covers the main topics of Grades 7 and 8: negative numbers, fractions, the order of operations, algebra, circles and probability. English and AI literacy have their own Grade 7 and Grade 8. A short warm-up finds where your child is in each subject. See the detail

What each grade covers here

Each grade here works on the main topic most schools teach that year. It is not everything your child's school covers. For example, Grade 3 math here is multiplication (times tables) and division. Time, money and shapes are not here yet. Each grade's page lists what is not here yet.

Grades here are a guide, not any province's school program. A short warm-up finds your child's level in each subject. It is a set of questions that takes about ten minutes. The level moves up as your child learns.

How a round works

The same in every subject. A worksheet is 20 to 25 questions, in rounds of five or six.

  • Read aloudRead aloud is already on from Kindergarten to Grade 2 in math and English. In AI literacy, it is on to Grade 1. At other grades, one tap turns it on.
  • Too easy?Does your child get ten right answers one after another, and fast? Then the app offers to end the worksheet early. The questions that are left do not count as mistakes.
  • Learned means learnedA skill counts once it is 3 in 4 right on two different days.

Who writes the questions, and who checks them

  1. Each worksheet fits your child's level. From about Grade 3 to Grade 5, most worksheets come from our hand-checked question bank. That is a set of questions we have checked by hand. Those worksheets are for a child who reads English, French, Spanish, Hindi or Punjabi; otherwise the AI writes them.
  2. Before your child sees a worksheet the AI wrote, two checks run. The app itself re-does every simple calculation (like 8 × 7). A second AI answers each question again, without being told the right answer. If a check does not agree with the AI's answer, we take that question out.
  3. You can report any question. After each worksheet, every question has a button: “Something wrong with this question?” Each report goes to the founder.

The 5-question try and the first warm-up are not written by the AI. They come from our own hand-checked questions.

Your child's data, in three lines

What we keep
A first name (a nickname is fine), the grade, the language, and the province or country. Their answers. Interests, only if you or your child pick some. An age, or what your child finds hard, only if you gave it before October 9, 2026. We stopped asking for those that day. Never a photo, an address or a location.
Who sees it
You, in your account. The people who run Sum & Story, to fix problems. A tutor, if you sign your child up with one. Never another family. The AI that writes worksheets never gets your child's name.
Deleting it
From your dashboard, any time.

Our database is in Canada. The website, its emails and the AI run in the United States. Some data goes there too. Privacy
